*Joey celebrated six years with Blazer and
*Five years in a very happy marriage.

~NEW YEARS
COMES CRASING IN~
We took the college career group to Sunriver for a winter retreat. On January 1st a few of us were going to head into Bend, OR. for some shopping. As Joey helped me back out of the garage, he started shouting and I thought I was about to hit a tree. I had no idea that a tree was about to hit me!!! Joey stood by helplessly as a gust of wind broke off the top of a tree and sent it crashing into my windshield. Praise the LORD no one was injured other than cuts from the broken glass. A branch broke through the window and punctured the dash…one foot back and it would have punctured Katie Ross. We were van-less for two weeks, and thankful for Joe Ross’ willingness to come drive us home. On the bright side, we got a free night of lodging when we went back to pick up our van and enjoyed a weekend away with Drew Stark and Stacey Harding.

~CAT OR CHEESE? ~
While watching some home school baseball games, we were offered a free kitten. He must have been pretty cute, because we didn’t have to beg Joey to keep him. We thought of naming him “Short-Stop” in honor of the location…then Joey’s little brother, Sammy, walked up and said, “Your cat looks like cheese.” So we named him Cheddar.

~DOG GONE~
We had a great time at COVE (our youth group’s summer retreat). I guess Abby (the cute dog on last year’s Christmas picture) decided she wanted to go tubing at COVE too…because she somehow got off her runner and disappeared while we were gone. (Either that or an extremely cute Beagle was too tempting for some thief.

~RETREATS FROM CIVILIZATION~
In addition to COVE, we also had a summer retreat with the College Career Group. We spent a weekend at Foster Lake enjoying Doug Harding’s amazing boat skills. We had a great time.

In June, Joey was able to take a “man-cation” to the Jedidiah Redwood forest with his brother-in-law, Tim, and brothers JJ and Jacob. On the way back they were able to stay with their very generous great aunt Jean and uncle Archie in Grants Pass. They stopped and explored the Oregon Caves. They also stopped at the “Oregon Vortex” and came back with very interesting stories. You’ll have to corner Joey sometime and hear all the details. They really enjoyed the time away.

In August, we were able go to Camp Morrow. It was a gathering of all the descendants of Joey’s Great Grandparents. (If you thought there were a lot of Shetler’s from Joey’s grandparent’s line, just go back one generation and the family explodes!) We loved getting to know 2nd Cousins and Great Aunts and Uncles and their families. The weather was beautiful and it was a wonderful trip.

~IN & OUT~
In the beginning of September we made the tough decision to step down from the high school and college aged ministries. We dearly loved the ‘kids’ but for various reasons realized it was time to move on. We hope to remain involved for special events, but the weekly commitment was a strain on our family time. We miss them dearly!

Although Pam is currently a designer with Home and Garden Party (now called Celebrating Home) she will be phasing out in 2010. This is partially due to all the changes, but mostly because the photography business has increased. Pam continues to enjoy every opportunity to further her photography business.

We joined a twenty something/young families group. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know others who are in the same place as we are. It has been a huge blessing. Also, because we needed to get Emma in to AWANA, Pam was able to rejoin the ♫choir♪.

Some Things We
Never Envisioned
Saying Before Parenthood...

1. Emma, don't lick the cat.
2. Shh...Emma! Stop Barking.
3. Emma, what do you mean
you went potty up at
the top of the play structure?
5. Emma, don't lick mommy's leg.
6. Emma, get back in your car seat!
7. Um, Emma... Is that the
spoon you just used? No, that
doesn't go back in the drawer.
8. Emma, put your clothes back on.
9. Emma, don’t put the rubber
band on the kitty’s neck.
